We are offering youth and young adults the opportunity to talk to someone. We have seen how silence is a common practice that creates isolation and depressions. Because our civil war, our society experience trauma and grief. By giving them the opportunity to chat with our mental health professional, and seek their advice, we are working on their wellness. We are also breaking the stigma around psychologist and the search for help. We recently launched a new web based app to give the chance to any person and any psychologist to interact. Also, many private companies have showed interest since we can support their human resources areas outside office hours and increase their services to their employees.

Problem

The mental health situation in Guatemala and the region is a difficult problem. After many years of a civil war and no psychological treatment for many people with trauma, youth have suffered of disintegrated families among other problems such as alcoholism, migration, lack of jobs. Our tool give them the chance to have a mental health professional to talk to at any moment and seek professional support in a simple and affordable way.

Solution

We offer youth the opportunity to chat with mental health professionals using our web based tool. For USD$ 3.20 they have access to all the resources (videos, podcasts, blog, information on scholarships) and 2 hours of chat with any of our mental health professionals. We are available for them 20 hours a day (eventually 24/7) to talk about their problems or just give them advice on any requested topic such as comprehensive sexuality education, scholarships, bullying, and others.

Target Beneficiaries

Our customers are youth from 14 to 29 years old. We believe at early ages is when more support is needed in terms of mental health, potentially avoiding many problems in their future. Having virtually no one to talk about their problems, we are becoming their only source of information in many topics, including education opportunities, migration, and other. We also serve psychologist who are underemployed and are looking to grow as professionals.

Mission and Vision

Mission: Be the main source of wellness among all Central Americans to create a more healthy and empowered region. Vision: Improve the mental health of all the Central American youth by connecting them with mental health professionals to create a more resilient region.

Competitive Advantage

Our "competitors" (and I quote it because I would like to have more organizations like ours working on mental health) are universities or any other non for profit organizations that have a public psychological clinic in some towns in Guatemala. But since they are physical locations, they follow a schedule, and most of the times the users need to travel long distances to reach them. Our service being internet based, allows us to reach the farthest locations and support them. Our protocols do consider referrals to these clinics, but many times our youth only need to talk about an issue in very specific moments. Also, the cost of an hour with a psychologist average USD$20.00.

Planned Goals and Milestones

Scale with our B2C model giving more youth and young adults the opportunity to chat with mental health professionals. Grow the B2B model with private companies offering our service to their employees. A national awareness campaign on mental health including the workplace.
