To mitigate against the risk of supplying solenoid valves, we have designed an open-source“pinch valve”. A spring holds a Tygon tube “pinched” in the closed position. As a solenoid isenergized, it pulls against the spring opening the tube and controlling airflow.The design is suitable for injection molding and so can be fabricated inexpensively and quicklyin large quantities. The valve is simple to assemble and the total BOM cost is ~$57, notincluding the cost of 3D printed or injection molded parts.
