AgUnity Response has developed a digital platform enabling farmers to safely connect with buyers and ensure uninterrupted food supply chains worldwide.

The AgUnity Response App can be downloaded to any smartphone device or tablet for free to farmers and consumers. Once farmers set up the app, they can list fresh produce and set their own prices. The consumer can use the location settings in their app to find the most convenient and local farm in their area and connect directly with the farmer for produce. The consumer can use the location settings in their app to find the most convenient and local farm in their area and connect directly with the farmer for produce. We then charge farmers a 10% fee for each transaction allowing the farmer to keep the majority of their profits.

Problem

With COVID-19 causing massive disruption to global food supply chains, while simultaneously increasing demand from people who need a safe way to get healthy produce, smallholder farmers are particularly affected due to local market, school, and restaurant closures. AgUnity Response helps farmers in any country, connect directly with buyers through our digital platform, which includes contactless delivery and payment. Allowing farmers to continue business, increase income and reduce food waste.

Solution

The COVID-19 pandemic is already directly affecting the food supply chains and the capacity to produce and distribute food has become an issue. Our platform is addressing this problem directly by creating a solution that is allowing food supply chains and farmers to thrive. Farmers are losing business every day and by using our platform to directly connect with consumers, we can help alleviate disruption in the food supply chain.

Target Beneficiaries

With social distancing requirements and quarantines in affect, farmers have been unable to reach buyers. This solution will benefit not only the farmers who have lost access to the supply chain due to local and global shutdowns, but also those vulnerable to the health threat of COVID-19 or those in food insecurity.

Mission and Vision

With a likely second wave of COVID-19 hitting later in the year, our mission is to have an established base of farmers that are readily available for the overwhelming response of online orders that was seen in the following months after lock downs were put in place. Farmers can continue business in the event of food supply chain disruption and ensure those with pre-existing health conditions can access fresh produce without having to risk exposure at supermarkets and through leaving home.

Competitive Advantage

By using the AgUnity Response App, we can safely and effectively get produce to consumers by limiting the amount of people handling produce and/or long exposure in markets. With other methods that currently exist, (e.g. concierge services at supermarkets) the process of what the produce endures from farm to consumer goes through numerous handovers of produce. This could look something like; produce from farmer, to transportation, to distribution centre, transportation to supermarkets, stock room, to market shelves, and long exposure to potentially infected people in the supermarket. Same goes for other delivery methods of fresh produce. There are still multiple points of hand off that could potentially be dangerous. With the AgUnity Response App, produce comes from the farmer, to a delivery driver and directly to the consumers door. The AgUnity Response App is specifically tailored for farmers in rural and remote areas and for farmers with low-literacy, low-technology usage.
